Dialed In’s multiple stakes winner Chalon kicked of her 2019 campaign with a victory in the $100,000 Skipat S. Friday at Pimlico. The 5-year-old now has four stakes wins to her credit and has earned $717,295 for owner Lael Stables.
Second in last November’s Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1), Chalon was given the winter off to prepare for this year’s races.
Handled with confidence the entire way by Javier Castellano, Chalon was tucked in behind the speed until just before the stretch, when she swung two wide and went by Everlasting Secret, then drew off late to win by two lengths in a stakes-record 1:09.46.
“Everything went well,” said trainer Arnaud Delacour. “She broke a touch slow. She’s usually a little more aggressive to break and get a position. It looked like Javier really had to hustle a little bit to get her into position. Once she got to a spot she was relaxed, and she looked like herself. She finished very well and looked like she had something left.”
Chalon’s win gave Dialed In six stakes horses this year. The Darby Dan stallion has been a top-10 sire of his generation every year at stud, and currently ranks fourth on this year’s Fourth-Crop Sire list.
Chalon was bred by J K and Linda Griggs and is out of Fall Fantasy, who foaled a full sister to Chalon last year.
